THE BALLAD OF BELLA FURY (INTRO) california beaches where the color never runs dry never noticed mind crowned by all that stormy sky salvage love where shipwreck paints survival bitter call love "american beauty". call war "beautiful fury". never thought i'd see the day when we would walk away never thought i'd feel the way i felt around you, baby guess it's easy when you're tempted by the promises didn't understand we can't belong to anybody don't you know that you weren't meant to be just anybody don't you know your body don't belong to anybody guess it's easy to be tempted by the songs we're given even when we grew up singing just to prove that we exist here
2.
PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY we never mean to get this high, but out here we always end up making love to fallen angels. these LA girls got ultraviolet in their eyes, so let's roll down the windows breathe infinite blue sky. anonymity never felt like it does tonight; crashing, like the waves on the side of the cliffs at night. now what if love is just another state of mind? and all of us are just addicted to the feeling. deep down we know that all of this is going to change soon, so let's roll down the windows breathe infinite blue sky. anonymity never felt like it does tonight; crashing, like the waves on the side of the cliffs at night. driving to the top of the world just to watch it burn, always high up. the pacific is our sunrise. hopelessly in hopeful state of mind, i lock eyes with you, in moments stolen from spotlight. picture us: swaying back & forth in slow dances like slow motion tsunamis, calling god's name like it's black magic; praying to be found with eyes unopened. afraid of heights but you crave the fall, crash landing in the hotel hall, knocking on all the wrong doors, i couldn't find you anymore, i am still as my heart will allow, as the night will allow me to be, & you are gloriously dangerous, demonstrating how an angel gleams gold even after grace has shattered, how dignity washes clean our skins
3.
YOU ARE THE OCEAN baby you are the ocean the farther i dive in, the more i know so i'm holding my breath just vibing the motion you don't need to tell me where to go. baby i want to jump inside right into the depths of you. i wake up on the coastline and your waves are pulling me back in. if you keep rocking the boat i'm manning then i'm better off sinking in. baby i want to jump inside right into the depths of you.

The Good 06:17
THE GOOD toxicity, when i call you up at night, intricacy how we fall in place like we're pieces of two separate puzzles. riddle how we ricochet and mix, oh my vision is a tunnel so if you be my light the end can be our funnel and the days are feeling right so there's really nothing left to do but sit back and replay these nights, watch the stars fade to grey skies, just watch them. so nothing is wrong tonight never mind all the problems there ain't no tomorrow here and there's no high to fall from when i'm like this with you i want to fall fast and recklessly... is that good for me? no time for questions or your honesty, just reckless words. say you'll be good for me. your cardigan, slipping off your waistline, slow like summertime nights before the fall, i could watch you dance in the circles to the bass all night as if the neighbors never complain, oh my vision is a tunnel your eyes the deepest green american beauty subtle turn american dream and there's really nothing left to do but count all the ways that the wars you were born into fuck with your conscience but nothing is wrong tonight never mind all the problems there ain't no tomorrow here and there's no high to fall from when i'm like this with you i want to fall fast and recklessly... is that good for me? no time for questions or your honesty, just reckless words. say you'll be good for me. only the good baby only the good baby say you'll stay say you'll see only the good when you're with me say you'll see only the good when you leave
5.
Bad Days 02:31
BAD DAYS ***guitar/voice/rain say you'll stay with me like you mean it i'll believe in you for a minute til a minute becomes a day cause a day is all that i need i haven't been sure about you and me lately, baby cause right now i'm feeling like i can't save you from the pressure of bad days cause right now i'm feeling like the pressure's on me to be all that you have, babe
6.
Pompeii 07:23
MINOR KEY (poem) ***[POMPEII INTRO] minor key low down sound off into the night lit like luminaries; luminaries likened to light that caught corners sculpted stone peek into galaxies not your own mind crowned stormy skies khaki skinned and kohl eyed all on your own all on your own all on your own POMPEII tear it out of my ribs, i don't like the way my heart talks when you walk past: skipping beats and waiting back, and all for what? just so we can hear you call back? heightened awareness, adrenaline kicking my brain into high gear my words taking cliff dives off of high rises i am addicted to the way that you look when you're looking up at me you're fire hazard and i am frayed edges trying to burn neatly let me fall down to my knees and worship at the gates of your temple and i'll say a prayer cause my heart is going up in flames call me pompeii cause my body is a city up in flames you're drinking june in like pompeii like things are meant to die i see the way that we fall in and self destruct, oh what this city taught us about love is sacrament and though we never question that faith i can't help but wonder why we lose our innocence too soon oh baby what is it like to love for a night? i am addicted to the way that you look when you're looking up at me you're fire hazard and i am frayed edges trying to burn neatly let me fall down to my knees and worship at the gates of your temple and i'll say a prayer cause my heart is going up in flames call me pompeii cause my body is a city up in flames

SEARCHING FOR SOLACE harder than it seems isn't it? isn't that why we take it as it comes, these hollywood ideals hitting right between the sheets finding a love in the darkness any pair of arms looking for, searching for solace when the evening comes all of the beautiful people spilling through the streets life on the silverest platters all i wanna know is who you are when there's no cameras all i wanna know is what love will take from the honest all this time we tried to build a shelter out of our love seeking refuge in the walls we built around each other baby don't you know your body can't belong to anybody it can't belong to me if this is love then why do i feel like you're mine? i just want freedom from the wars inside our minds no peace or harmony when we can't even fly no peace or harmony until we free our minds we used to think love was such a beautiful thing but one day rifles dropped out of the sky and men in camo green ordered our grandparents' parents to waltz with them-- split their tongues on the bayonets. that was the day we made peace with war. the fastest way to erase history is to train us young, shipwrecks of logic spun through the thrust of split tongue instruments of war forged in hollywood's saturation, we are civilized--my people all this time we tried to build a shelter out of our love seeking refuge in the walls we built around each other baby don't you know your body can't belong to anybody it can't belong to me if this is love then why do i feel like you're mine? i just want freedom from the wars inside our minds no peace or harmony when we can't even fly no peace or harmony until we free our minds where does she go when the neon fades and the glamour is gone? i see her downtown but she don't look the same in the grips of the sun the weight of the summer has left me to wonder if i was ever right to think i could be the one to save her still none of us can blame her we're all just trying to get by

ROSE-TINTED RAYBANS nights: heaven fell on the snow dipped concrete sweet summer memories a thing of the past you never know it til the last damn moment you never know it til the whole thing crashes and i can see it like a film strip catching fire on screen like a hollywood thriller director took his liberties with the script and you countdown from peaks of your highest climax lust after love like a golden chalice get to the gates with your heartbeat calloused try not to think too much about it imagination is a canvas too many blues are in this palette, so i'll put on my rose-tinted raybans and let my fingers do the talking true colors bleeding on the stage while you're dancing a crashing comet come to earth wreaking havoc the neon lights get them close enough to pluck you right from the sky into glass case bedrooms and all the while i'm standing by at the coatcheck wrapping myself in a camouflage bomber biding my time while the denouement unravels riding your horses to your highest climax lust after love like a golden chalice get to the gates with your heartbeat calloused try not to think too much about it imagination is a canvas too many blues are in this palette, so i'll put on my rose-tinted raybans and let my fingers do the talking i wanted to be in a place all my own, surrounded by far reaching symbolic facets of home like breakfast conversation, humming in the bathroom, my name in her voice: sweet songs in our mother tongue. instead i got to know you, the leaves on the kitchen floor blowing in through open windows, cold winter car rides from midnight til sunrise i was deep looking in your eyes and i saw manifest destiny, burdening the love that was there. we were destined to fall apart; all a part of the bigger picture. you missed out on one moment before so you started fishing for one that you'd be ready for, every time wishing you'd studied more, worked to actively demystify the mystique of your femininity, the one that made you infinity yourself to me. this is magnetized attraction, unauthorized passion in action, you flashed before my eyes, embodied brazilian rhythm with the scent of your sighs, the mint on your breath like intent staining the air. the same way words get caught in our hair and ideas seep into our skin then stay there, tainting the fairness of it all. we are a heat seeking affair, missing the mark by mere millimeters, hitting dead spots, careening into distant crevices our minds could not imagine, abandoned where nothing but the void exists. staring down from impossible heights and saying this is love.

Drink Myself 03:27
DRINK MY SELF (OUTRO) wonder what she'll say when i am gone last year we were talking so damn young and naive now we never seem to know enough all this heartbreak in my carry on, i'm leaving home yeah, i hate the way i left her cold danger to myself as i've been told before last year i was holding her so tight now i'm holding onto how i'm right, i'm leaving home drink my self apart tonight, i want to wake up on the other side of the world wonder what she'd say if i had stayed last year she would call to ask if i'm okay now i torch our love on every stage all across this city, every night i'm leaving home drink my self apart tonight, i want to wake up on the other side of the world

about

The Ballad of Bella Fury began in a hotel room in Laguna Beach, scrawled on a notepad one summer night in 2012. It's about cross-country road trips, alcohol-driven nights on the beach, and the heartbreak rollercoaster of love, hate, and self-discovery that leads to seven friends from all across North America brought together in Boston by the struggles and highs of music. Distorted guitars, improvisational saxophone melodies, and sweeping string arrangements punctuate a story about coming of age in a world that's getting smaller and farther removed from its origins.
